All of the materials and modules from that program are now available online as open educational resources. The Certificate in Blended and Online Teaching program features 11 modules, which can be completed as a whole or as stand-alone resources. They include: Benefits and Challenges of Online Education, Online Teaching Skills, Instructional Design Models and Theories of Learning, Online Course Development, Learning Outcomes as Blueprints for Design, Assessment in Online Environments, Communication Strategies in Online Environments, Synchronous and Asynchronous Tools, Online Learning Communities, Interaction, Engagement and Motivation, and Gamification in Education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to create a personalized \u201cWelcome\u201d video for your Blackboard course<\/strong><br \/>\nStart the year off on the right foot by creating that social presence and personal touch to your Blackboard course.  According to Shea, Li &#038; Pickett (2006), \u201cThere is a clear connection between perceived teaching presence and students\u2019 sense of learning community.\u201d  Start building your learning community by posting a simple welcome and introduction message.  <\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 640px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-2307-1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.northernc.on.ca\/leid\/videos\/faculty\/howtointroduction.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernc.on.ca\/leid\/videos\/faculty\/howtointroduction.mp4\">http:\/\/www.northernc.on.ca\/leid\/videos\/faculty\/howtointroduction.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p><strong>Exemplary Programs<\/strong><br \/>\nNorthern College\u2019s Law Clerk Program provides an example of multiple strategies for online learning and student success. This program provides flexibility for returning or mature learners by offering fall and winter intakes. The two-year diploma Law Clerk program is offered synchronously through web conferencing using Saba Meeting e-classroom provided by Contact North | Contact Nord. Classes have a regular schedule and students can log into the live classroom from any personal location or Northern College campus.<\/p>\n<p>Through this online web format, students can see the professor and have the option of sharing their image. Saba\u2019s app sharing tool allows for PowerPoint slide presentations, images, documents and includes a virtual whiteboard. This virtual classroom also provides for chats, polling, verbal and written communication among students and professor. For additional flexibility and access, programs are recorded for student use and review.<\/p>\n<p>Courses in the Law Clerk program are supported asynchronously through the college\u2019s learning management system, Blackboard Learn.\u3000 Course materials are uploaded online.
