Basic Foot Care

Northern Training Division
Credential Earned: Training Certificate
Campus: Distance
Program Length: 2 Days

This course for Registered Nurses (RN), Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) or Personal Support Workers (PSW) teaches basic foot care knowledge and skills necessary to function within your health care community setting and skills that coincide with providing routine care in activities of daily living.

This course is delivered online through Zoom. You will receive one single use podiatry kit in the mail to practice your skills. While we will attempt to have this kit delivered to you prior to the start of your course, we can’t guarantee arrival dates.

The course, designed for RN, RPN and PSW, includes providing care within the institution’s scope of practice, the ability to recognize common risk factors and foot problems that require referral to an appropriate health care provider.

Personal Support Workers are considered an integral part of the health care team. While PSWs are unable to cut or trim the nails of diabetic clients, clients on blood thinners, clients who have certain circulatory disorders or are considered high risk, PSWs can take the Basic Foot Care training to help identify abnormal disorders of the skin and nails. This assessment can result in early intervention and ensures the client gets referred to the appropriate health care providers to receive the care needed.

To receive a certificate, students must achieve a minimum of 80% on the test and attend all instructional hours.
