DZ Truck Driving Program

Northern Training Division
Credential Earned: Training Certificate
Campus: Timmins
Program Length: 49 Hours

Cost: $3,500.00 + HST

Acquire the necessary driving skills to operate a DZ truck in today’s heavy traffic environment. This 49-hour program includes classroom, fieldwork, and operating instruction to provide you with the training required to successfully obtain your DZ license. We provide our participants with all of the background information that they will require to operate a Class D truck or any vehicle that exceeds 11,000 kg gross weight safely and effectively.

Training is delivered both in the classroom (with face-to-face and virtual classes) and in-truck. Participants will receive 24 hours of drive/fieldwork time with an instructor including trips on highways, city streets and back roads. Particular attention will be paid to defensive driving. As well, the instructor will introduce real scenarios a driver may encounter. Some real scenarios may be presented and experienced through the use of truck simulator workshops. Most drive/fieldwork time is on a 1:1 participant to instructor ratio.

Review, Testing and Evaluation
Participants will receive a final grade based on the following breakdown:
Attendance: 10% of total grade
Written Tests: 30% of total grade
Practical Driving Test: 60% of total grade
Total grade out of 100%

80-100% – EXCELLENT: Outstanding performance
70-79% – GOOD: Better than average achievement
60-69% – SATISFACTORY: Achievement
50-59% – MARGINAL: Minimum acceptable level of achievement
0-49% – UNSATISFACTORY: Insufficient achievement; must repeat

Please note: Full attendance is mandatory. Missed driving time can only be made up at an additional cost. Participant grades do not factor into the MTO required testing. The results of the MTO written and driving tests are not reflected in the participants’ final mark from the College. The school’s truck will be made available for one MTO road test at no extra charge. If a re-test is required, the truck can be made available at an additional cost to the participant. The participant will also be responsible for the cost of the re-write test.
