Christianne Blain is a full time professor at Northern College’s Addictions and Mental Health Worker program. She has over 20 years of social work, drug, and alcohol counselling experience. Christianne has completed the Social Services Worker Diploma and Drug and Alcohol Counselling Diploma in 2003 at Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology. She is currently completing her Bachelors of Community Economic and Social Development with Algoma University. Christianne has been employed as a Registered Social Services Worker in a variety of roles in the community including, residential treatment at the Jubilee Centre, community counselling both in-patient and outreach at South Cochrane Addiction Services. Harm reduction outreach with the Porcupine Health Unit and Program Manager of Systems Development with Living Space. Christianne continues to conduct advocacy work in community around harm reduction and addressing the unique needs of unhouse people. Christianne has helped to develop committees throughout the province effectively identifying the diverse needs of our northern community. Christianne currently serves on the Timmins and Area Drug Strategy direct service provider committee along with advocating on many sub-committees for people with lived or living experience of homelessness and substance use in our community. With extensive knowledge in harm reduction practices and a person-centered approach she takes pride in showing compassion, respect, and empathy to those marginalized in our northern community. Christianne is currently serving on the board of directors of Do-It-Yourself Community Health a warming center set to open in the next two months that creates opportunities for wholistic health for those marginalized in the community.
