Northern College is seeking an Indigenous Advisor in our Advising Services department. The successful candidate will have knowledge about Indigenous culture. In addition, they will possess problem solving, negotiation, teamwork, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced office environment. Ability to speak an Indigenous language is an asset.

Reporting to the Moosonee Campus Manager, the incumbent is responsible to provide support services as well as social and academic guidance to primarily Indigenous and, occasionally non-indigenous students at the Moosonee Campus, and supports to First Nations community-based program access sites (Moose Factory, Fort Albany, Kashechewan Attawapiskat)
What you will be doing:
- Promote Indigenous culture understanding and learning;
- Provide information, and assistance to students in planning and choosing a program;
- Organize and coordinate the annual James Bay Career Fairs, Moosonee Campus Open House, and Graduation Ceremony;
- Provide personal advice and referral services to Indigenous students;
- Participate in the recruitment of Indigenous students, advise Indigenous student groups; and
- Coordinate the on-campus Elder’s Program.

What you will need to be considered:
- 2-year diploma in the field of Community Services such as Social Work, Indigenous Studies, or related/equivalent;
- 3 years of experience working with Indigenous people and communities in the field of social services and knowledge of Indigenous community resources and culture.
