Northern College is seeking a Manager, Indigenous Services & Initiatives in our Cultural Division. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable of, sensitive to, and have experience working with diverse cultural groups including specifically, Indigenous cultures including local community structures (on and off reserve), community needs and political environments. Strong interpersonal, collaborative, proposal writing, and negotiation skills are required. Additionally, demonstrated experience leading teams, and prior experience in a unionized environment is an asset.

Reporting to the Chief Cultural Officer, the successful candidate will promote positive Indigenous identity, accurate Indigenous knowledge and student leadership development consistent with traditional Indigenous world views. The Manager is responsible for reporting on Northern College Indigenous Council on Education activities to funding partners; monitoring the progress of short and long term initiatives and strategies; administration of special projects/contracts; budget and finance planning and reporting.

What you will be doing:

  • Contribute to the business plan and to college operations on initiatives specific to Northern College’s Strategic Direction on Indigenous Perspectives;
  • Lead the implementation of the Truth & Reconciliation recommendations as they relate to the college, as well as the implementation of the Seven Principles of the CICan Protocol, by working collaboratively with key members of the college community; and
  • Build relationships and networks within and with Indigenous communities and partners.

What you will need to be considered:

  • 3-year diploma in Social Sciences, Education, Community Development or related/ relevant field of study;
  • 5 years of experience working directly with or in support of Indigenous groups in a professional capacity in more progressive positions; and
  • A person of First Nation, Métis or Inuit culture with knowledge of Indigenous language(s), ways of knowing, and spirituality relevant to the region in which the College operates.

The incumbent may be required to provide a criminal reference check.
