TIMMINS, ON: Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (NYSE: AEM) (TSX: AEM) and Northern College Training Division are partnering to deliver fully-funded training for skills development in the mining sector in Northern Ontario.

The $4.58 million project aims to develop a new skilled workforce through collaboration, innovation, diversification and experiential learning in a wide range of mining-related programs including career readiness, trades pre-apprenticeships, underground mining, diamond drilling, mineral processing and environmental monitoring.

“At Agnico Eagle, we firmly believe in supporting and encouraging students to consider a career in mining. We offer many opportunities to build technical skills through on-the-job training and the chance to work with some of the industry’s most talented leaders. With support from Minister McNaughton, our partnership with Northern College will help prepare the next generation of work-ready gradutes to fill many in-demand positions within the mining sector,” said Andre Leite, Vice President, Ontario, Agnico Eagle Mines. “The creation of partnerships and talent pipelines for specialized roles within our industry is critical to our long-term success. In 2021, we hired nearly 600 workers for our operations in Northern Ontario and we have many more positions to fill now and into the future.”

These programs, funded through the Skills Development Fund, will prepare students for in-demand careers while providing inclusive opportunities for those wishing to work in the mining industry. As many as 146 individuals will benefit from these free-of-charge programs offered throughout Northern Ontario, including programs with on the job training opportunities directly at Agnico Eagle Mines’ Ontario Operations including Detour Lake Mine and Macassa Mine. Funding may also be available to students to help remove barriers to success such as childcare, travel and accommodations.
