Close: Friday, January 31, 2025 at midnight
Notes for the Online Application Portal
Please ensure that your social insurance number (SIN) is on record with the college. You will know if it isn’t on file with us when you attempt to log into the application system. A message will come up on the screen telling you that your SIN number is required. If your SIN is not on file with us, you can do so in your Student Account. Please wait one hour after the change has been made to re-enter the application system. If your address is not up-to-date in the online application system, you can update this at anytime by logging into your Student Account and selecting “My Contact Info” in the left hand navigation menu.
Important Note: Be sure to submit your applications for each individual bursary. Completed bursary applications will have a checkmark (✓) and status will say “Pending Approval”.

Other Ways to Receive Awards
Get Nominated
You can be nominated for an award at Northern without applying. Faculty and staff of the College also select outstanding students who make an impact to win scholarships, bursaries and awards. Stand out from the crowd, help classmates, make it to class, try your hardest, and do good things in the college, in your class, and in the community to help increase your chances of being chosen.
Apply to External Funding Sources
Everyone loves students like you and want to support you. When we hear about another organizations offering awards and/or scholarships to recognize and assist students, we’ll let you know!
Explore even more opportunities that are available out there by going online and doing a search of external funding supports. Good luck and hope we can send a cheque your way to help you pay for college!
If You Win!
You will receive a call or email from your campus Financial Aid Officer if you have won a scholarship, bursary or award from Northern College before an award ceremony so that you can attend in person and receive your award.
Awards Ceremonies
The event takes an hour, and you will receive your cheque, your award, and have a nice photo taken of you to show the ones you love. If you can’t make it in person, we will mail you your money. There will be snacks and refreshments at the award ceremony and maybe the person who donated the money to help you succeed will be there to present the scholarship, bursary or award to you. We will call out your name and welcome you to the stage.
More Information About Receiving Awards
We may publish your name when we announce the winners so we can share in your success and celebrate you. This is true if you are nominated by a faculty member, as well, for a scholarship, bursary or award with the College. If you do not wish to have your name shared, it is very important that you let your Financial Aid Officer know right away in writing so that we can remove it from any advertising related to this program. Thank you for your understanding and good luck!
If you have received one or multiple scholarships, bursaries or awards, you will receive a T4A tax receipt in the mail in February for tax purposes. This receipt will also be uploaded to CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) and will include the total amount you received in awards for the year.
Thank you, Donors!
Our Winter 2022 Scholarships, Bursaries, and Awards recipients have written thank you notes, taken celebratory photos, and even created videos to show their gratitude to donors for the financial support they have received for their studies.
We are so excited to show how much this financial support means to students and to thank our donors for making this possible!
