Grand Opening of the new Haileybury Public Library At Northern College’s Haileybury Campus

March 3, 2022

HAILEYBURY, ON: Northern College is pleased to announce the re-opening of the Haileybury Public Library at its Haileybury Campus, thanks to an exciting new partnership with the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Following the closure of the existing Haileybury Public Library, the City of Temiskaming Shores identified the need for a more streamlined and supported library space that could continue to meet the needs of the community. They then approached Northern College to do just that.

“The importance of public libraries is profound,” stated Dean Lessard, Northern College’s Dean of Community Services and Learning Innovation. “The public library is where so many educational journeys begin. Cultivating an environment where people can exercise their curiosity and desire to learn on their own terms plays a large role in instilling a love for knowledge, especially in young minds.”

Library goers will now have access to the contents of the existing Haileybury Public Library alongside the resources made available to students of the Haileybury Campus.

Every five years, Northern College embarks on an effort to alter and re-focus existing priorities as it works to adapt to an ever-changing educational climate. These strategic plans outline the main points of focus for the institution.

“Access to education is a main point of focus for us at Northern College,” stated Dr. Audrey J. Penner, President & CEO of Northern College. “It’s a main point of focus for our strategic plan and most importantly, it’s enshrined in our institutional vision:  Empowerment through learning to build a better world. This partnership is one that will help make that happen.”

Northern College and the City of Temiskaming Shores will be hosting a formal Grand Opening on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Haileybury Campus.  The public is invited to attend.

“Northern College is proud to support its Campus communities as a centre for learning, arts and culture,” stated Tammy Mackey, Northern College’s Haileybury Campus Manager. “We believe that accessibility is essential to education and when this opportunity was brought to us, it was an incredibly easy request to answer. We are pleased to be a part of co-creating this enriching environment of learning for all.”

“We, at Northern College, will always seize opportunities to provide educational resources to people in our region. This library partnership is an exciting example of that,” added Dr. Penner.
