Local Donors Invest in Northern College’s Integrated Emergency Services Complex
TIMMINS, ON: Northern College is commemorating the generosity of local investors with a plaque in the Integrated Emergency Services Complex (IESC) at its Timmins Campus.
Eight local businesses and donors have invested in expanding the programming on offer at Northern College’s newest facility, funds that will be used to enhance the experience and learning environment of emergency services students.
“Through the generous donations of our community partners, Northern College is now approaching the vision of becoming a centre of excellence for emergency services academic programming and training; not just in the North but for the province as a whole,” stated Sarah Campbell, Northern College’s Dean of Health Sciences and Emergency Services. “Our new IESC, and the systems and equipment that it houses are second to none, and now our students can experience first-hand the leading edge of simulation training, intraprofessional learning activities and experiencing a truly integrated learning experience.”
Northern College is constantly working to ensure that its students have the latest in technology, teaching and learning techniques at their disposal in an effort to better prepare graduates for an evolving work environment.

The pursuit of this goal does not come without great cost, and any effort from our community partners to invest in the success of our students is an investment in the future of our catchment region.
“Post-secondary education is a competitive marketplace and students arrive with expectations of being able to learn on the latest technology. With the support of business and community donors, we are able to meet those expectations as part of providing a high quality education,” stated Northern College President and CEO, Dr. Fred Gibbons. “This all contributes to producing graduates who have the skills and experience to become highly valued members of the local workforce.”
Northern College is grateful for the generosity of past and present donors, as our donors have always recognized that investing in Northern College students is a great investment in meeting our future workforce needs across our region.
“Having a College that is teaching everything from trades to fire and emergency services is good for a community like ours,” stated Michael Cain, President of Cain Safety Fire Protection Inc. “We have a lot of smaller outlying communities that also benefit from these types of educational opportunities, it’s good for our community growth and longevity overall.”
