Northern College Exceeds Student Expectations in Latest KPI Data

September 25, 2019

TIMMINS, ON: Northern College is proud to announce that it is leading Ontario’s English speaking colleges in student satisfaction with 92.9 per cent of students reporting that their programs are providing them with the skill they need for future employment.

This statistic is one of dozens of percentage increases Northern College is seeing in the latest Key Performance Indicators (KPI) data released by Colleges Ontario; crucial student feedback that allows colleges like Northern to measure the effectiveness of a wide variety of student centric program initiatives.

“We have worked very hard over the past few years to assure program quality and invest in student success,” stated Dr. Audrey Penner, Northern Colleges Vice President of Academic and Student Success. “I think these key performance indicator results are the fruits of those labours.”

This KPI data shows that Northern is well above average in a number of categories including overall service quality (81.2 per cent), overall facilities quality (79.4 per cent), grad rate for one year programs (72.7 per cent) and a perfect employer satisfaction rate (100 per cent.)

“At Northern College, we pay very close attention to how we are doing as an individual college and in relation to the system,” stated Penner. “We are the smallest college in the Ontario system, and we are proud of what we achieve.”

As Northern excels in a number of quantifiable metrics, there are some areas that leave some room for improvement including overall graduate rate, which is lower than the provincial average. While these performance indicators can illustrate where colleges like Northern are succeeding, they are an important marker to provide direct feedback on areas that require more focus.

We are taking a deeper dive into our graduation rates to identify program and service areas where we can improve,” stated Penner. “There is always room for improvement and we know our grads meet employers’ needs, so increasing the number of grads is the best way to help address the skills shortage the North is facing.”

Northern College is committed to providing the highest quality education and best post-secondary education both inside and outside of the classroom. Northern is dedicated to providing students with the tools and support needed to become successful graduates, with skillsets to succeed in their professional work environment and these Key Performance Indicators are the best way to inform tangible changes to improve the overall student experience.
