Province Makes Commemorative Investment to Improve the Experience of Students at Northern College
TIMMINS, ON: In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ontario’s College System, the province is making a $1.5 million investment in Northern College to enhance the experience of students. This funding will help Northern stay in front of education trends and prepare students for rewarding careers in this new technology-driven economy.
The new investment from the province will help the college provide new equipment, simulation and information technology, and enhanced learning infrastructure for students in the Paramedic, Paramedic Bridging, Police Foundations, and Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training programs.
The new equipment and learning resources will be housed in the Integrated Emergency Services Complex at the Timmins Campus. Construction of the new state-of-the-art complex is scheduled to begin later this spring.
The legacy investment will also support other high demand programs by providing equipment and technology to modernize existing classrooms and labs throughout all of Northern’s four campus locations.
“We are pleased the government has honoured the colleges’ 50th anniversary with this important commitment to the future of college education and the success of students,” said Fred Gibbons, president of Northern College. “This investment will play a vital role in Northern College continuing to provide access to innovative education in our communities.”
The funding is part of a province-wide commemorative investment of $48 million in capital funding to Ontario’s 24 publicly assisted colleges to support major initiatives that enhance student learning.
Ontario is also providing $2 million to the Northern Colleges Collaboration to improve student access to education in the North. This project is an innovative partnership between northern Ontario’s six public colleges, Boréal, Cambrian, Canadore, Confederation, Northern and Sault.
