This course develops the foundational mathematical knowledge and quantitative reasoning skills required for success in fire service education and professional practice. Through applied emergency-services and firefighter-focused scenarios, students learn to perform accurate calculations involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, rates, measurements, unit conversions, perimeter, area, volume, and capacity. Students also develop skills in interpreting workplace data, solving multi-step problems, and communicating mathematical solutions using appropriate units and terminology. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, estimation, critical thinking, and practical application of mathematics to resource management, operational planning, equipment calculations, and workplace decision-making.
