NS2003 (LU-PSYC2006) Child & Adolescent Psychopathology
Health care professionals are likely to encounter children and youth experiencing a range of mental health concerns in their practice. A critical understanding of what is meant by the term mental health and knowledge of the mental disorders as defined by the DSM and knowledge of medical and psychosocial interventions for those disorders can position the health care practitioners as stronger advocates and better care providers for children, youth, and their families and caregivers. This course also will assist in enhancing the students’ mental health literacy in order to better position them as informed contributors to, and advocate for, young people’s mental health and mental health care. Students will explore beliefs and attitudes that may influence the health care practitioners ability to provide care and support and to participate as integral members of an interprofessional mental health care team.
This is a General Education Elective predetermined by the BScN program and may be subject to change.
