This course builds on foundational medication-administration knowledge and develops a deeper understanding of pharmacology and the professional responsibilities associated with safe, ethical, and evidence-informed medication use. Students examine major drug classifications, medication actions, therapeutic uses, contraindications, interactions, and adverse effects. Emphasis is placed on client assessment, interpretation of medication orders, monitoring therapeutic and adverse effects, medication safety, client education, and the practical nurse’s accountability in promoting safe medication outcomes.
