Our Community Services micro-credentials provide skills to work and support initiatives that aim to enhance the quality of life for those living in our communities through our robust and current curriculum.

Micro-credentials are offered completely online, at your own pace, semester based, and continuous enrolment.

Micro-credentials are an ideal option for achieving badges of completion for professional development that can be also placed in LinkedIn accounts. Whether personal or professional development, micro-credentials indicate that you have developed skills to perform a specific workplace task.

Micro-credentials are offered completely online, at your own pace, semester based, and continuous enrollment. Each micro-credential completed means you will achieve a completion badge.

Some micro-credentials are standalone courses, while others can be grouped into a specific Micro-Qualification (MQ). By completing a group of micro-credentials, students can obtain a micro-qualification certificate.

Cost per micro-credential: $492.00 (Eligible for OSAP Funding)

Micro-Credentials Offered

This micro-credential offers a comprehensive overview of Ontario’s Child Welfare system, tracing its evolution from its inception to modern day.

This course delves into the historical context, shedding light on oppressive practices that have had lasting impacts on families and communities.

Additionally, this course examines the rights afforded to children globally, analyzes prevalent forms of child maltreatment, and emphasizes the crucial role of caregiver engagement in promoting child safety.

After successful completion of this program, students may complete the Child Welfare II micro-credential.

Admission Prerequisites

Successful completion of a college diploma, university undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field. These could include: Social Work, Social Service Work, Addiction and Mental Health, Psychology, Early Childhood Education or other social sciences studies, at the discretion of the instructor
Students who have successfully completed at least one academic year of formal studies in one of the above programs and are currently pursuing their diploma/degree program are eligible to register.
Persons who are neither graduates nor students in any of the above programs but are currently employed in the child welfare sector or in a capacity that intersects or collaborates with the sector may be considered eligible, at the discretion of the instructor. These could include Prevention or Outreach Workers, Band Representatives, Victims’ Services, Law Enforcement, or others who work with victims of violence or vulnerable populations. To be considered, applicants must provide a current job description and a letter of support from their employer.

After completing Child Welfare I (CS5020), this second advanced micro-credential delves into the pressing challenges confronting the child welfare sector.

Specifically, the course examines typical scenarios and environments where child protection workers deliver services to children, youth, and families daily.

It critically analyzes the dynamics of offering and receiving child protection services, considering both the perspective of service providers and that of child and adult clients.

Additionally, this micro-credential addresses vicarious trauma and underscores the paramount importance of self-care for front-line workers.

Work through the online learning material at your own pace, at times that work best for you. Some micro-credentials may also include placement hours and/or live (synchronous) virtual sessions with a facilitator.
