Northern College to Issue Nearly $800,000 in Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards with Winter Awards Ceremony
TIMMINS, ON: Northern College is celebrating the success of its students by giving away just under 800,000 dollars in scholarships, bursaries and awards (SBA) during its Winter award ceremony this semester.
Three times every academic year, Northern College hosts its SBA awards, rewarding the hard work, dedication, and excellence of its students, offering the kind of financial support that helps them achieve their academic goals and graduate.
“We take so much pride in being able to support our students to this degree,” stated Northern College President & CEO, Dr. Audrey J. Penner. “Now – more than ever – the financial stresses our students are facing can be a genuine barrier to their success and we are so grateful to be in the position to reward them for their hard work.”
“None of this would be possible without the incredible work of our Foundation and the generosity of the donors that make all of this possible,” added Penner.
Northern College’s Foundation will be issuing a total of 715 separate awards to deserving students across all four of its campuses, in addition to 54 Mining-specific awards being offered through the O.E. Walli Foundation. Northern also issued over 10 thousand dollars in award money through its Family Tuition Assistance Program.
“This is our favourite time of the year,” stated Nicole Gingras, Development Officer at Northern. “We love the support from our donors, many of whom attend our ceremony to meet and celebrate with our students because without them, this wouldn’t be possible on the same scale.”
“We guide our students towards excellence; in fact, we encourage it,” stated Aaron Klooster, Vice President of Academic and Student Success at Northern. “For all that we ask of our students, the pressures of balancing work and their studies, it’s a wonderful moment to be able to show our support like this.”
Northern will be hosting awards ceremonies at three of its four of its campuses on Wednesday, March 8 at 1 p.m. Media are invited to attend to share in this celebration of success and support.
The Timmins ceremony will take place in the cafeteria; in Haileybury, the ceremony will take place in room C110, and in Kirkland Lake, awards will be celebrated in the Charlewood Auditorium.
Northern College is proud to invest in the success of its students, to encourage their academic pursuits and support their efforts to secure a bright future for themselves issuing two million dollars in scholarships, bursaries, and awards in the past year.
Northern also issued over ten thousand dollars in award money through its Family Tuition Assistance Program, as well as entrance scholarships for any applicant choosing to study at Northern. Entrance awards are worth $1,000 to $1,5000 each totaling $350,000 for the year and are for students looking to attend any of Northern College’s programs.
