Important Notes:
You can expect to receive your StudyInsured™ insurance wallet card (insurance policy certificate) via email after the start of the semester:
You will be automatically enrolled in this health insurance plan. Details regarding your health insurance card and policy information will be sent to you by email once you are registered in the health plan.
Coverage starts prior to the start of the semester.
However, the insurance certificate will be emailed after the semester starts (see above question one, “When I receive my insurance card?”).
Students will be required to “pay out of pocket” before they get their insurance card and can claim from the insurance provider for the medical expenses once they receive their insurance card (or wallet card).
The cost of the insurance plan is included in your annual student ancillary fees.
Yes, you can enrol your family members and pay the premium using a credit card on the custom website. You will need your international student insurance policy number located on your wallet card in order to enrol an eligible family member:
https://www.studyinsured.com/northerncollegefamily
The plan is identical to the student plan, but the rate for the family member premium might be higher than the student plan.
Note: Northern College is offering this as a convenient option only. You are not required to purchase family coverage for family from MSH/StudyInsured and are free to explore other products as you wish.
Yes, there is a Visitor to Canada Insurance Plan option available online for any visitors to Canada who will need insurance. Your friends or family members staying in Canada for a short period can enrol and pay the premium with a credit card.

In the event you withdraw from the college or transfer to another institution, your insurance coverage will automatically be canceled.
International students shall reach out to wdrequest@northern.on.ca for the insurance withdrawal/refund assessment.
If a student makes any claim under the insurance plan while enroled, they are not eligible for a refund.
Refund Criteria
A full refund ($740) is granted if the withdrawal request is submitted before or within the first 10 days of the first semester and the student did not use (make a claim) the insurance plan during this period.
After the first 10 days of the first semester, a pro-rated refund is available if no claims were made under the insurance plan. The refund amount will be the annual premium ($740) – the daily rate ($2.10)* the number of total insured days.
To be eligible for a refund, students must provide the following documents:
Once the withdrawal request and supporting documents are submitted it may take up to two weeks to process the withdrawal. Refunds may take up to eight weeks to be processed.
If the refund is not received within this timeframe, students should email wdrequest@northern.on.ca to check the status of their request.
Family Members & Dependents: This procedure excludes the insurance withdrawal/refund of the family members or their dependents. Students shall reach StudyInsured directly for their family member(s) or dependent(s)’ insurance refund.
For international graduates, the insurance plan is extended for an additional 30 days after the last day of their final semester.
Graduating students have 90 days after their insurance coverage expires to submit claims for any medical expenses incurred prior to the expiry date.
The last day of the final semester is published in the college’s Academic Calendar for that year.
An Orientation to Health Insurance Coverage with StudyInsured™ was held via Zoom on January 15, 2025.
