Self Identify

Your Identity Matters

Northern College invites Indigenous students to self-identify and access culturally grounded support, opportunities, and community.

When you choose to self-identify, you’re choosing to be seen, supported, and celebrated – as learners, as leaders, and as proud Indigenous people.”
– Christina Kioke, Attawapiskat First Nation, Manager of Indigenous Services and Initiatives

Student Voices

For me, self-identifying was about reclaiming my voice. I’m proud of my roots, and I want to show others that it’s okay to take up space as an Indigenous person in college. We belong here.”

— Ariana Kioke-Budd, Attawapiskat First Nation Affiliation, Social Service Worker Student

Self-identifying isn’t just about checking a box. It’s about honouring where you come from and making sure the next generation sees us in these spaces too. We deserve to be heard.”

— Shem Mattinas, Moose Cree First Nation, Social Service Worker Student
