Dual Credit Course: Introduction to Product Design

Dual Credit Course
Introduction to Product Design

Have you ever looked at a product and thought, “I could make that better” ?

In this hands-on course, you will take an idea from a first sketch to a real 3D-printed prototype.

You will learn the same design process used in college and industry while earning both a high school credit and a college credit.

This dual crdit course for high school students is part of our Mechanical Engineering Technician and Technology programs.

Design it. Model it. Draw it. Print it. Improve it.

What You Will Learn

  • Sketch ideas and communicate shape, size, and function.
  • Create clear black-and-white 2D technical drawings.
  • Build accurate 3D models using Fusion 360.
  • Prepare designs for 3D printing and safely use college lab equipment.
  • Test how a product fits and works, then improve the design.

Projects You Can Build

1. Table-edge cable guide: Design a useful clip that keeps a charging cable from falling to the floor.

2. Personalized stamp or embossed design: Create a product with your own symbol, initials, or graphic.

3. Modular plant label: Design parts that fit together and can be customized.

4. Your choice final project: Choose a problem that matters to you, design a solution, print it, test it, and improve it.
